Marco Gustilo

I landed into this line of work, liked it and have stuck with it.
Company Name:
AyA Kitchens and Baths
Job Title:
Sprayer
Occupation:
Description:

Marco Gustilo is a Sprayer in the Finishing department at AyA Kitchens & Baths in Mississauga, Ontario.

Marco has a lot of hands-on work experience. Prior to starting with AyA, Marco was working for a furniture company cutting and building frames for sofas, but he took this position because he wanted to learn more about finishing. He had always liked painting from his experience doing it at home. He started at AyA as a general labourer and worked his way up.

According to Marco, good hand-eye coordination, as well as a basic understanding of how paint reacts with different materials, are both essential skills for a sprayer. In addition, a sprayer needs to be able to set the pressures of spray pumps and mix the colours properly. This is great for Marco because he really enjoys making the wood look nice. Another important attribute is a lot of patience. Marco says that “if you want to become a sprayer, you have to be prepared for repetitive work.”

When asked to share his thoughts about this career choice, Marco said that it’s a good, steady job which is helping him to learn new skills and requires him to be very resourceful – for example, in substituting out materials needed that are not available for those that are.

Moving into the future, Marco sees himself staying in this industry because he likes working with wood; he does this in his spare time at home doing repairs and says that by nature he is a handyman. Right now, working in the finishing department is what he likes but he would be interested in becoming an installer since he would like to see how cabinets would look in a house.
